Sonia Guimbellot serves as an influential woman who leads by example. Her insatiable desire for our world to do better inspires change around her. As a constant student herself, she understands the importance of providing our children with a quality education. Her desire for providing for the future of our world led her to take on the position of Director of Communications at Star Learning in April 2014. Since then, there has been an exponential growth in enrollment and overall morale in the institution.

Star Learning is an educational initiative to garner higher test scores in the state and challenge the gifted and talented students. Guimbellot works with the chair of the university pillar, aiming to connect local universities with universities overseas.

It is evident that her 15 years in Development and Community Outreach has given her the kind of ability to relate and communicate with all walks of life. By utilizing her talents in social arenas, Guimbellot has been the face of many prestigious organizations in which she has been involved. From Small Business Today Magazine to spearheading the first World Chamber of Commerce, her deep commitment is in making the City of Houston a better place and she has an international interest in global improvement.

The World Chamber of Commerce, Texas Chapter, has a mission to promote and teach international trade and foster cultural and humanitarian exchange to develop economic opportunities worldwide. The nonprofit organization is made up of a wide array of individuals from different cultures, including former mayors and former governors. The World Chamber organizes and supports initiatives and events promoting global trade, cultural/educational and humanitarian goals. Guimbellot is in charge of membership and serves as director of communications development. She’s worked with companies such as SCORE, Goldman Sachs and the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council.

Guimbellot has built a successful security and surveillance company from the ground up, launched a business magazine and radio show and contributed to the Rotary of The University Area of Houston for many years. She enjoys volunteering at community events and taking on leadership roles. Guimbellot is a lifelong learner and is passionate about learning from others. Her motto is “Education is the new and lasting diplomacy.” She networks with everyone and tends to migrate to people like herself – gentle souls with strong wills.

Guimbellot helped put on the first Global 7 (G-7) Awards, recognizing Houston’s international businesses and academic achievers. She’s also coordinating the Houston Global Trade Conference and Expo to take place May 2015. She is a board member of the Read3Zero Literacy Foundation, member of Houston Mayor’s Economic Development Council and member of HITDC. She is also an advocate for anti-bullying and is part of the Unite to Stop Bullying (U2SB) organization.

She has earned the respect as one of the most influential professional business networks of today. She has used her ability to connect professionals of diverse industries to create strong relationships which have led to successful businesses and personal growth for many. From comforting parents and children on their path to gaining an education to inspiring entrepreneurs to continue pursuing their dreams, Guimbellot is a proponent for positive change and a proponent for encouraging those around her to become a star.
