Rhonda Roychelle Newhouse

Rhonda Roychelle Newhouse graduated from Pemberton High School in Marshall Texas. Following in her parent’s footsteps, she attended Prairie View A&M University where she graduated with honors distinctions and a bachelor’s degree in business education. While at Prairie View, she was a member of the Business Fraternity, the Honor Society, and on the second line of the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Upon graduation, Rhonda married the love of her life, Frederick Newhouse, and together they took off for the University of Washington in Seattle where she received her master’s degree in Educational Curriculum and Instruction. Then headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she launched a very successful and rewarding career in education and earned a second master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Southern University. Being a lifelong educator, Rhonda kept growing and earned additional educator certifications and licensures in California and Texas.

After 34 joyous years, which included Teaching, Counseling, and Principalships, Rhonda retired from Aldine ISD and secondary education and moved to higher education as an Adjunct Professor at Prairie View and the University of Houston Downtown.

Shortly after leaving higher education, Rhonda moved from the classroom to the boardroom. She’s presently serving in her 3rd term on the Board of Trustees for Spring ISD and is the immediate past President. She also serves on Spring’s Educational Foundation Board and has served on the Houston American Diabetes Association Board. As you can see Rhonda is passionate about education and continues to live out her passion through service.

Most of Rhonda’s civic service is through her second love Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is a Golden Star and Life Member and a Charter member of Omicron Tau Omega Chapter in Spring, Tx. She has served as Chapter President, Southeast Texas Cluster Coordinator, and recently a Co-Chair for the 68th Boule of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Rhonda is also an enthusiastic Associate Member of the North Houston Suburban Chapter of Jack and Jill. And the founder of the Northwest Flyers Youth Track Team.

Rhonda and her husband operate a cattle ranch affectionately known as Rhonda Ranch where they host a multitude of events for the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, high school and college agricultural programs, and much more. If you can’t find Rhonda at sorority events, in the boardroom, or on the porch of Rhonda Ranch, check out Fallbrook Church where she serves as a greeter with a warm welcoming smile.

Rhonda and Frederick have shared 50 years of marriage. They have two daughters, Vonda Nunley and Benecia Carswell, two sons-in-laws Pele’ and Corey, and two grandsons Andre’ and Bryce.
