Dr. Kerrie Patterson-Brown

Kerrie Patterson-Brown, Ed.D. is a visionary and trailblazer in the field of education and athletics. A former collegiate athlete, she played basketball for Texas A&M University, where she not only excelled on the court but also demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities that would serve as the foundation for her future endeavors.

After completing her college education, Kerrie married her college sweetheart, Reggie Brown, who was a standout linebacker for Texas A&M and later pursued a successful career as a professional football player in the NFL. However, fate took an unexpected turn when Reggie suffered a devastating neck injury during his second year in the league, leaving him grappling with a loss of identity and battling severe depression for over a decade. Witnessing her husband’s struggle and recognizing the need for support and alternative paths within the sports industry, Kerrie became determined to make a difference.

Kerrie tirelessly pursued her dream of opening a charter school that would not only cater to young athletes but also shed light on the various career opportunities available within the sports world. She firmly believes that sports go far beyond playing the game, coaching, athletic administration, sports medicine, and sports media. With a strong conviction that God had a plan in place, Kerrie embarked on a challenging journey to establish Legacy the School of Sport Sciences – the first charter school of its kind in the state of Texas.

The school’s mission is to empower young athletes with knowledge and skills related to the business and science of sport. Legacy provides a unique learning environment where 97% of the students are athletes themselves. Kerrie and her team use the students’ passion for sports as a foundation to teach various content courses through the lens of the sports industry. By doing so, they aim to nurture well-rounded individuals who not only excel in their respective sports but also possess a deep understanding of the diverse opportunities available in the world of athletics.

Kerrie Patterson-Brown’s relentless determination, combined with her compassion and desire to make a positive impact, has earned her immense respect within both the education and sports communities. Through her innovative approach to education, she continues to shape the lives of countless young athletes, providing them with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the field. As a pioneer in her field, Kerrie’s legacy will undoubtedly extend far beyond the boundaries of Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, leaving a lasting imprint on the future of sports education.
