Dr. Letitia Plummer

Like many Houstonians, Dr. Letitia Plummer was raised in a multicultural household, an enriching experience that has deeply shaped her life and career. Born to an African American father and a Yemeni-Indian mother, she grew up in an environment founded on strong principles of opposing injustice and actively speaking out against it. Her upbringing has influenced her deeply, steering her into a life dedicated to public service and community care.

Dr. Plummer’s educational journey began with her graduation from the prestigious historically Black Spelman College. Following this achievement, she continued her education at the Baylor College of Dentistry. Inspired by her father’s career, she pursued a path in dental practice and is now a successful practicing dentist in her community.

Her accomplishments extend far beyond her professional practice. As a city Council Member, Dr. Letitia Plummer has embarked on several noteworthy initiatives that have resonated with the Houston community. During the challenging times of COVID-19, she demonstrated her innovative leadership by engaging top Houston chefs in her ‘Feed the Need Program,’ a vital effort that provided meals to seniors and food-insecure families across Houston. Her commitment to food security hasn’t waned; she continues to seek long-term, sustainable solutions for food deserts.

Dr. Plummer’s passion for justice is reflected in her work on comprehensive Policing Reform as part of Houston’s budget amendments. Since introducing the reforms, she has been a staunch advocate for criminal justice reform, displaying an unwavering commitment to her principles.

Her responsiveness and dedication were also evident in her extensive work during Winter Storm Uri. Dr. Plummer took the initiative to provide immediate assistance to underserved and vulnerable residents, gaining recognition from several community-based organizations for her relentless efforts.

In 2021, she furthered her commitment to the quality of life for Houstonians by proposing an Apartment Inspection Reform ordinance. She has since worked tirelessly to enhance living conditions for tenants, launching a Tenant Education Program, forming a Tenant Council, and collaborating with the city’s inspection team for swift results. Letitia’s vision extends even further. Recognizing Houston’s potential in the global economy, she has actively forged international business alliances. Dr. Plummer is committed to creating lucrative partnerships that attract investments and employment opportunities to Houston, enhancing the city’s status as a thriving hub of opportunity.

Dr. Letitia Plummer is a dedicated servant of the people. Her multicultural upbringing, professional achievements, and relentless drive for justice and community betterment set her apart as a leader, advocate, and visionary.
