Susan McEldoon

Susan McEldoon is President and General Manager of KHOU-TV, a TEGNA Media subsidiary and an affiliate TV station of the CBS Television Network. She joined KHOU in 2004 as Director of Sales and in 2006 was named Vice President/Station Manager. In November 2007, she was promoted to her current position as President/General Manager.

McEldoon is a 25 year veteran of television station management. Her experience

includes leadership positions at network-owned stations, as well as other media groups. She has held posts with NBC in Denver, CBS in Chicago and the Dispatch Broadcast Group in Columbus, Ohio.

McEldoon has been an active member of her community throughout her career. She currently serves on the Board of the Greater Houston Partnership and is the Board Chair for the Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross.

In 2008, she was recognized as Broadcasting & Cable Magazine’s General Manager of the Year.  McEldoon’s additional awards and recognitions include, but are not limited to:

  • Houston Women’s Chamber Breakthrough Woman Award – 2009
  • Houston Women’s Chamber Hall of Fame Inductee – 2010
  • Houston Woman Magazine 50 Most Influential Women Award – 2012
  • Denver Advertising Federation’s Advertising Professional of the Year Award
  • American Advertising Federation’s Ad Club of the Year Award
  • Media Alliance of Houston Star Award for TV Station Manager – 2010, 2012 and 2015

KHOU-TV is one of the most decorated TV stations in the country. While under McEldoon’s leadership, the station has been recognized with numerous local, regional and national journalistic awards, including two of the industry’s top honors…the prestigious Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Station Excellence.

Susan holds a BA in Communications from the University of Missouri/Kansas City and an MBA from The Ohio State University. She completed the National Association of Broadcasters’ Management Development Program for Television Executives at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 2007, and she is a Spring 2010 graduate of the Center for Houston’s Future Business/Civic Leadership Forum.

Susan and her husband of 32 years, Nick Smeloff, have three children and five grandchildren.  Their hobbies include traveling, boating, biking, reading and spending time with their family and friends.
