Ann Stern

Ann Stern is President and CEO of Houston Endowment, a private foundation whose mission is to enhance the vibrancy of greater Houston and advance equity of opportunity for the people who live here. With assets totaling approximately $1.6 billion, Houston Endowment invests approximately $80 million each year in organizations that support and promote arts and culture, education, the environment, health and human services.

 Prior to joining the Foundation in 2012, Stern served as general counsel and then as Executive Vice President of Texas Children’s Hospital. While at Texas Children’s, she had the privilege of helping to develop the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute and the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.  Prior to joining Texas Children’s, she practiced law with Beck, Redden & Secrest and Andrews Kurth, and she taught business law at the University of St. Thomas.

Stern received her bachelor’s degree in Plan II from the University of Texas at Austin, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. She also received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.

She has received a number of honors, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Community Service from the University of Texas Law School and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from St. John’s School

Stern currently serves as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and of the Invesco Funds Board. She is also a board member of the Holdsworth Center, which is dedicated to the development of strong public school leaders in Texas. She is a past president of the Junior League of Houston. She previously served as the chairman of St. John’s School and on the boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Stern and her husband, Karl Stern, an attorney with Quinn Emanuel, have two children and two grandchildren.
