Kristin Tassin

Kristin Tassin’s passion for equal opportunities and a high-quality education for all children has guided both her personal and professional life. Her personal experiences with her own children, as well as her professional experiences with the children of many others in the Fort Bend community, have shaped her strong belief that all children deserve to be educated in a safe, challenging and inclusive environment and that this can only be achieved through an atmosphere of open, collaborative communication between parents, educators and administrators.

Tassin was elected to the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees in 2014 and is currently serving her second term as Board President. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Business Analysis (Computer Science option). She also earned her Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Law School. Tassin is an attorney at Dry & Tassin and has had her own law firm for 21 years. She practices intellectual property litigation, business torts, contract, and special education law. Tassin is a member of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, Houston Young Lawyers Association and the Exchange Club of Sugar Land. In 2011, she was named a Texas Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers magazine.

After her oldest daughter was born with Down syndrome, she and her husband founded a non-profit organization, “Father’s Joy,” which supports families who have children with disabilities. Since its inception in 2003, Tassin has worked through Father’s Joy to organize, plan and provide educational training, workshops and conferences for educators, parents, attorneys and medical professionals in the areas of differentiated instruction, inclusive education best practices, curriculum modifications and accommodations, special education law, positive behavioral supports, delivering a diagnosis of Down syndrome, and other topics. In addition, she has written papers, created presentations and spoken on many subjects related to inclusive education and special education law and has been a monthly guest lecturer for pediatric interns at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Tassin has been married to her husband, Shannon, for over 20 years and has been a Missouri City resident since 1996. Tassin has three children who currently attend Fort Bend ISD schools, one in elementary school and two in high school. With her three children, Tassin has experienced all aspects of education in FBISD including the regular education curriculum, the gifted program, and special education and related services.
