Ann Harris Bennett

Ann Harris Bennett, Harris County Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar was sworn into office on January 3, 2017.

She is a 5th generation Texan, born in East Texas, grew up in Corpus Christi, and is a 45 year resident of Harris County.  Bennett attended Texas Southern University School of Journalism and Communication, and Sam Houston State University for certification in Court Administration.

Her experience includes 15 years in Harris County Civil District Court Administration and 12 years as a Legal Secretary/Legal Assistant in Plaintiff and Insurance Defense law firms.  She spent almost 13 years researching and testifying expert in Texas Spanish and Mexican Land Grant probate cases.

Bennett’s passion for efficiency, accessibility, fairness, transparency, and accountability in county government has been evidenced by four runs for two county government offices (Harris County Clerk/Election Administrator and Harris County Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar).

Bennett is an advocate for online voter registration, a cost effective, efficient and simple process for voters to register.  Her vision for either of the offices she has pursued is for better accessibility, efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the democratic voter registration and election process.
