Connie L. Cochran

Connie L. Cochran serves as Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations & Special Events at Texas Southern University, carrying more than 29 years of experience in her field. Cochran moved to Houston from Chicago, Illinois where she previously served as Executive Director of Alumni Relations & Special Events at the largest College of Medicine in the country – the University of Illinois – Chicago. At Texas Southern, Cochran is responsible for creating and implementing activities and events designed to support alumni relations programs and alumni giving at the University. In this role, she has helped to increase alumni involvement as well as alumni giving. She oversees outreach and communication to graduates and former students of Texas Southern University and works closely with the TSU National Alumni Association to increase membership and provide enhanced customer service. Her goals are to engage, educate and reconnect alumni to the University through involvement and financial support. She also mentors students and serves as an advisor to student organizations, including the Pre Alumni Association and Collegiate 100.

Cochran graduated Cum Laude from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. She was very involved in campus life, serving as a member and captain of the Lady Tigers Tennis Team and named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. She was initiated into Gamma Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Texas Southern University. She holds a Master of Science degree from Chicago State University.

Cochran was named Alumni Director of the Year by the Black College Hall of Fame and received an HBCU Leadership Award. She has been the keynote speaker for several events and conferences. She is a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She is currently a Life Member of the Texas Southern University Alumni Association. She is a Life Member, Silver Star and National Editor for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Regional Editor for Jack & Jill of America, Inc. and a member of the Links, Inc. She is a liaison on a national HBCU Task Force and works to bring more awareness to the human trafficking issue. She is a member of numerous boards and was a featured guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show entitled “Career Women Who Do It All.” She is the proud mother of two sons, Tucker and Tate, who both attend Morehouse College in Atlanta.
