Carolyn Benton Aiman

Carolyn Benton Aiman is senior vice president & chief compliance and risk officer for Sempra Infrastructure, leading the company’s compliance and enterprise risk
management efforts, as well as leading information management, supply chain, and IT/cyber organizations. Before that, she was senior vice president and chief
legal officer for Sempra Infrastructure. She was responsible for all of Sempra Infrastructure’s legal affairs, including matters related to legal strategy, LNG development, operations, regulation, governance, and compliance.

Benton Aiman has more than 25 years of in-house legal and private law firm experience. She has worked in energy for most of her career and has supported different lines of business across the energy value chain. Benton Aiman has successfully supported the delivery of capital projects and global supply chain for an international company, supporting key capital projects across the energy value chain.

Benton Aiman also supported various business lines during her career, such as renewable energy, wind, alternative fuels, manufacturing and commercial, and regulatory and employment law matters. Prior to providing business legal support, Benton Aiman was a litigator and trial attorney, managing matters from pre-litigation to full disputes.

In addition, Benton Aiman has been a champion of inclusion and supportive of diversity in the energy sector and the legal profession. She has also served as executive sponsor of employee resource groups focused on women and related key initiatives. During her career, she has been named to the Top 50 Women in Law 2019 by the National Diversity Council and named Houston Magazine’s Woman of Influence in 2017; Houston Business Journal’s 2022 Women Who Mean Business: Outstanding Business Leader in Energy; and 2022 Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce Role Model. She was recently named a Wonderful Woman by the Lawyers of Color Association and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Corporate Counsel Association and Texas Law Book. Benton Aiman was also featured on the cover of the MCCA magazine, featuring diversity initiatives she led while chairing a large legal department’s D&I initiatives for an international energy company.

Benton Aiman is a board member of the Greater Houston Partnership. She invests time mentoring up-and-coming professionals, including young lawyers. She also helps raise scholarships for law school talent. Benton Aiman has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Texas and received a law degree with honors from the University of Missouri. She is the mother of two children and has two dogs. Her sister, Mary Benton, is a past Top 30 Influential Women of Houston honoree.
