Sheroo Mukhtiar

Sheroo Mukhtiar is the chief executive officer for SERJobs, bringing over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector across four states and six community-based organizations. Her extensive experience has honed her expertise in strategic growth and transformational impact.

Over the past six years at SERJobs, Sheroo has spearheaded efforts to enhance the organization’s reach across industries and in Greater Houston. This includes the successful transition to the organization’s headquarters, known as the Workforce Opportunity Center, in 2018, followed by the construction and launch of a new, state-of-the-art Workforce Resource and Training Center in 2023. SERJobs’ mission continues to revolve around the elimination of barriers to employment, through diverse and comprehensive programs for underserved and under-resourced individuals and communities. With collaborative efforts and a robust funding portfolio, SERJobs is widely recognized as a valued workforce development organization across the Houston area, with services being offered in 17 satellite locations.

Sheroo holds a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis, with a specialization in Children and Youth Services and Nonprofit Management. She has also earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the College of Social Work in India, focusing on Child Welfare. Sheroo completed leadership programs such as Leadership Houston and the American Leadership Forum, which along with her professional experiences have provided her with exceptional skills in all aspects of nonprofit leadership, including advancement, board development and governance, strategic planning and growth, capacity building and talent management, marketing and communications, budgeting, and program development.

Sheroo has actively engaged with various boards and community initiatives, such as Impact100 Houston, the Indian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), Leadership Houston, Texas Executive Women, and the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, demonstrating her commitment to social impact and community development. Additionally, she has participated as a panelist and keynote speaker for events and conferences hosted by Comcast, the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA), Texas Capital Bank, UNIDOS, C3 (Construction Career Collaborative), Department of Labor, and Leadership Houston.

In 2023, Sheroo received the Women Who Mean Business award from the Houston Business Journal and was also recognized as a Woman on the Move by the Texas Executive Women.

Outside of work, Sheroo’s interests include traveling and experiencing diverse cultures and cuisines with her family. She is especially devoted to her two daughters, whom she describes as her North Stars.
