Claudia Ortega Hogue, a determined beacon, dedicates her life to advocating for the community as a nonprofit professional and business entrepreneur. Her unyielding commitment is to share her knowledge and personal mission with decision-makers, championing the cause of under-resourced communities. Her dedication shines through in her work on immigration, naturalization, census, and voting access, making history as the first Latina President of the League of Women Voters of Houston.
Her steadfast support for the nonprofit sector is evident as the founder and CEO of Global Communities Houston, LLC, a company that empowers nonprofits and advances their mission. Also a partner at SSP Engineering & Consulting, Ortega Hogue’s role in community development is not just a job but a passion: She plays a pivotal role in developing and managing relationships with municipalities, government entities, and architecture firms, contributing significantly to the community’s growth.
Her beliefs are the foundation for her work: Faith, love, compassion, making a difference in people’s lives, and a “can do” attitude. She is passionate about philanthropy and “connecting people to people” in a meaningful and impactful way.
Ortega Hogue’s influence goes beyond the local scene. Her extensive experience in government and nonprofit sectors included serving as the district director for the 29th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives, and being appointed to the advisory council for the Mayor’s Office of New Americans and Immigrant Communities for the City of Houston by the former Houston mayor.
Prior to joining the U.S. House of Representatives, Ortega Hogue worked for more than a decade as the Southwest Regional and Texas State Director with the NALEO Educational Fund, the nation’s leading nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that facilitates and promotes full participation of Latinos in the American political process.
She serves on several nonprofit boards, such as AVANCE-Houston, Houston ToolBank, Bonding Against Adversity, and the National Immigration Forum.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from Oral Roberts University and graduated from the University Language Institute in Oklahoma. She is a senior fellow at the American Leadership Forum (Class LIV). In recognition of her volunteer work, she was featured and profiled in The New York Times and Latina Lista, and recognized among “Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women” by the Houston Woman Magazine and “35 Houston Latinos You Should Know!” by the Houston Chronicle.
The awards for her exceptional contributions include the 2023 Campeón de la Comunidad by the Houston Texans and the 2023 Mayor’s Volunteer Appreciation Award by the City of Houston. These accolades are a testament to her outstanding work and the impact she makes every day in her community.
