Carolanda Bremond Woodgett

Carolanda Bremond Woodgett has practiced law for over 18 years and is currently the Associate Vice President and General Counsel ad interim at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (“UTMB”), a public academic health science center in Galveston, Texas, and the oldest medical school in Texas. In this role, Carolanda leads a team of attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and security professionals, who are dedicated to the mission of UTMB; namely to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world by offering innovative education and training, pursuing cutting–edge research, and providing the highest quality patient care.

Carolanda is also a strategic business partner known for providing practical advice to senior leadership while minimizing risks and delivering results. Throughout her 11-year tenure at UTMB, she has remained dedicated to diversity and inclusion, cultivating change, and collaborating with community partners who align with UTMB’s mission. Ultimately, Carolanda’s goal is to make a positive impact in her community by serving others, fostering positive relationships, and promoting diversity in the legal profession.

Before joining UTMB in 2011, Carolanda began her legal career in the Houston office of Fulbright and Jaworski L.L.P., practicing labor and employment law. During this time, she earned the respect and recognition of others within the legal community as a “Texas Rising Star” for 2009-2011.

Carolanda is a native Houstonian and later moved to Sugar Land, where she attended John Foster Dulles High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Africana Studies from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Thereafter, Carolanda moved across the United States to attend the University of California at Berkeley School of Law. There, she found her love for employment law as well as her desire to one day work in the public sector.

Carolanda has held numerous Board leadership positions in non-profit organizations, and she currently serves on the State Bar of Texas Health Law Council. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter.

Most importantly, Carolanda is married to Corey Woodgett and proud mom to their two-year-old daughter, Charlotte, stepmom to Taylor (19) and Cameron (14), and dog mom to Princess.
