Catherine Mitchell

Chief Operations Officer, Amerigroup

Catherine Mitchell is the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the AMERIGROUP Texas, Houston and Beaumont health plans. Mitchell is a native Houstonian who has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Sam Houston State University and has been with AMERIGROUP for more than seven years. She has an extensive background in the Houston health care industry with more than 25 years of experience.

Prior to joining AMERIGROUP, Mitchell held various management level positions with the following health care industry leaders: MetLife Healthcare, Prudential Healthcare, AmeriHealth of Texas and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. In her roles, she gained experience in both commercial and government programs and includes provider relations network development and contracting, health plan operations, outpatient clinic operations, strategic planning, finance and budgeting and marketing.

In addition to an active professional career, Mitchell is also an active volunteer with a focus on education and health care; Girl Scout Troop leader for 11 years, held a three-year term with a leadership role in a Houston area School Board, held leadership roles (President, Vice President and Class Rep) in area school PTO. She was a part of the 2011-2012 Annual Giving Fund for Houston area high school Foundation. She also actively participates in Houston March of Dimes, Health Babies are Worth the Wait Advisory Board.

Mitchell was most inspired by her mother as a child. Her mother survived breast cancer in her early 30s. Her grace and faith during that time left an everlasting impression on Mitchell. Her mother taught Mitchell to be independent and to believe in herself.

Mitchell is married to her husband Trey and has three children: her daughter graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and attends Texas A&M, a son who graduated from HSPVA and attends The University of South Dakota, and a son who is a senior at Cy-Creek High School.
