Perla J. Lane is the Executive Director of Facilities, Planning, and Construction Department for Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas. She is a seasoned, highly motivated, and detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in architecture, construction and facilities management. Lane oversees facilities operations for the fifth-largest school district in the greater Houston area, which comprises nearly 56,000 students and over 80 facilities.

A graduate architect and construction manager, Lane has worked across various sectors, including aviation, commercial development, civil engineering, industrial plants, oil and gas, transportation, healthcare, government, retail, higher education, and K-12 facilities. She is currently leading Aldine ISD’s 2023 community-approved bond referendum totaling approximately $1.8 billion—the largest in the district’s history—which focuses on safety and facility enhancements.

Throughout her career, she has held leadership roles, including Senior Construction Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Controls Manager, Architect Specialist, Senior Program Director, Assistant Vice President, and Director of Facilities Planning and Construction. She has overseen new and renovation construction projects that include K-12 facilities; light rail system; airport terminal concourses; ship channel drainage; and church structures. Most notably, Lane successfully directed and coordinated the Aldine ISD 2015 Bond Program valued at $798M, which consisted of technology upgrades, renovations and repairs of existing facilities, and construction of nine new schools. Additionally, Lane led the rebuild of the Aldine ISD’s Thorne Stadium into a “Destination Stadium,” designed to enhance the student-athlete experience, strengthen partnerships, and expand community engagement across the Houston area.

Lane received her Bachelor of Science, in Architecture from Prairie View A&M University and Master of Science, in Construction Management from New York University at Polytechnic. She decided to pursue a career in architecture and construction management from a tender age, as she witnessed her amazing father navigate the same career path with great success. Also, she felt this career path had the potential to address important environmental and cultural topics.

Lane has received numerous awards and honors during her tremendous career, and serves as a member of many professional organizations. She is most proud of her affiliation with American Institute of Architects (AIA), Women Contractor Association (WCA) and American Diabetes Association, which directly affects her family.

Lane has been married for twenty-nine years and has three beautiful children.
