Kamala Raghavan

Dr. Kamala Raghavan is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University.  In this position, she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in advanced financial accounting, managerial accounting and accounting information systems.  Dr. Raghavan has conducted seminars on finance for managers and international accounting standards at the Executive Development Symposium for senior managers from Africa in 2009.  She is a member of the Editorial Board of Texas Society of CPAs and a Digital Faculty Consultant for McGraw Hill.

She received her Doctorate in Accounting from Cleveland State University, an MBA in Finance from Northeastern University, an M.S. from Simmons College and a BSc (Honors) from Calcutta University.  Dr. Raghavan holds the certifications of Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Forensics Accountant (CFF), Certified Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP).  She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in managerial and financial accounting, accounting information systems, controllership, government/nonprofit accounting and personal financial planning at Robert Morris University, Cleveland State University, University of Houston and Ursuline College.  She taught banking courses for ABA and other banking organizations during her banking career.

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Raghavan was Senior Vice President of Corporate Accounting, Senior Vice President of Investments, Senior Vice President of International Operations and Chief Financial Officer of NatCity Investments at National City Corporation. She was also the Senior Vice President of Investment Operations at Citizens and Southern Bancorporation and Comptroller of the Treasury Division at First City Bancorporation.  During her banking tenure, Dr. Raghavan managed the corporate accounting, investment and international operations, treasury, systems and securities compliance. Dr. Raghavan serves on the editorial board of the Texas Society of CPA’s, and she is an active participant in the Management accounting, Financial accounting, Government and nonprofit accounting and International accounting sections of the American Accounting Association. Dr. Raghavan’s research interests are in banking, accounting, financial management, government and nonprofit management, systems and ethics.

Dr. Raghavan has been active in many nonprofit organizations, promoting community welfare and education in Cleveland and Houston. She is currently President of the Indo-American Charity Foundation (Houston), which supports education, family, general community welfare (including hunger) and healthcare for the needy in the metro Houston community. She also serves on the finance committee of the Meenakshi Temple Society (Pearland).
