Rashi Vats

Houston native Rashi Vats is an evening anchor for FOX 26 News.

She joined the news team in August 2013 and is so happy that her career brought her back to her hometown.

Since joining FOX she has held multiple roles including traffic anchor, reporter, and fill-in anchor for every single weekday and weekend newscast at FOX 26.

She was in the trenches reporting for 4 days straight during the floods from Hurricane Harvey, and the first reporter “live” from Santa Fe, Texas less than an hour after the mass shooting that killed several students and teachers.  She is passionate about international news and has done extensive coverage on the Houston ties to those stories. Most recently she did multiple stories after the Taliban took over Kabul and the war in Ukraine. One of her stories helped a local daughter get her mother to the US from Ukraine. She also was a part of the continuing coverage during the Astros 2017 and 2022 World Series wins.

Before joining FOX, she worked at the CBS affiliate in Bryan/College Station, where she served as the weekend anchor and reporter for two years. She was also a reporter for KRIS and KZTV in Corpus Christi and KXII in Sherman, Texas.

Rashi is a graduate of Texas Christian University. She has worked for CBS Evening News in New York as a chosen International Radio and Television Society (IRTS) Summer Fellow. Right before moving to New York City, Rashi was overseas where she interned at the CBS London Bureau.

She has emceed and supports numerous organizations including the Indo American Charity Foundation, Indo American Chamber of Commerce, India House, Literacy Now and Texas Liver Foundation.

The most influential women in her life is her mother who came to the US from India when she was 20 years old. Through numerous trials and tribulations, she has always unconditionally loved her children and given them her unwavering support to be the best version of themselves. “She is the epitome of strength, grace and elegance,” says Rashi. “She was very strict growing up, but now I see the softest side thanks to her grandchildren than can do nothing wrong!”

The business is challenging and very competitive, but her secret weapon has been her husband, Daniel Gotera, who has been a sports journalist in the Houston television market for almost 15 years. They have two little children who run their world!
