Tene Thomas

Tene Thomas is a Partner at McConnell Jones Lanier & Murphy LLP, the third largest African-American owned Accounting and Consulting firm in the nation.  Tene, a licensed CPA who began her career with Ernst & Young LLP, is the lead partner of McConnell & Jones’ Tax Practice with more than 20 years of technical experience in tax compliance, planning, business management, and accounting services.  She serves a myriad of industries including sports and entertainment, professional services, health care, real estate, manufacturing, and investment advisory services.  She is knowledgeable and passionate about her work and enjoys providing diverse and comprehensive tax services to notable small businesses, mid-size companies, and high net worth individuals that promote long-term business success.

Tene is a graduate of California Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA, where she holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While in college, she became the Controller overseeing a $2 million budget of a major Los Angeles Arts festival that boasted annual attendance of over 10,000 visitors and continued to lend her expertise for almost a decade to the nonprofit organization. She was also a fellow in the UCLA Anderson School of Management Riordan Fellows MBA Program, developed and founded by former LA Mayor Richard Riordan, which seeks to prepare individuals for leadership positions in the business community.  As a graduate of Leadership Houston Class XXVIII, the City’s pre-eminent organization dedicated to identifying and developing leaders’ representative of Greater Houston, she has joined the alumni of an impressive network of business and civic leaders. Shethe City’s pre-eminent organization dedicated to identifying and developing leaders representative of Greater Houston. Leadership Houston, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is a  top organization developing Houston’s civic leaders.  As an Alumi of Leadership Houston, she is a member of an  elite group of successful leaders including Houston’s Mayor Anise Parke is committed to giving back to the broader community and served as the Treasurer and Finance Chair for the National Kidney Foundation of Southeast Texas for four years. Most recently, Tene contributed her expertise to business students at Texas Southern University for several years as an expert panelist for the Greater Houston Area Leadership Skills Development Program.  She has also served as a weekly business contributor on CNN’s 650AM talk radio program “The Price of Business,” and has been called upon as an expert contributor in several articles for Accounting Today, a leading trade magazine.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is most fulfilled by her loving and devoted husband of 14 years, Shawn and their 4-year-old son, Blake, who is her “little sunshine.”
