Madeline Burillo, Ed. D.

Associate Vice Chancellor, Houston Community College

As the Associate Vice Chancellor of Workforce Instruction, Dr. Madeline Burillo oversees all workforce instruction for Houston Community College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The University of Puerto Rico, a Master’s in Organizational Management from The University of Phoenix, and a Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University. In addition, she is a graduate of Leadership North Houston Class of 1996, Leadership Houston Class XXIII (2005), the American Association of Community Colleges Future Leaders Institute, Class of 2005, HCC Leadership Excellence Institute Class 2009, and the 2013 American Council in Education Leadership Program.

Dr. Burillo was honored in 2001 with the Hispanic Women in Leadership Award for outstanding service in education. In 2010, she was honored as one of the Houston Community College Eagle Award recipients for Administrative Leadership. In the past 25 years, Dr. Burillo has held several administrative positions in higher education institutions in the areas of student services, college operations, workforce education, continuing education, corporate training, and distance education.

Dr. Burillo was born in New York, New York to Pedro Burillo and Victoria Lopez. Mr. Burillo, an emigrant from Spain, and Victoria Lopez, an American immigrant from Puerto Rico, met in New York City and eventually moved and raised their family in the island. The younger of two daughters, Dr. Burillo became a first generation college graduate, which set the pathway for the next family generation.

Dr. Burillo and her life partner have three daughters: Alysa, Alayne and Aly and are residents of Katy. Dr. Burillo is passionate about education and believes it is the key in providing individuals with the knowledge, skills and competencies to transcend into economic prosperity, achieve sustainable wages and have the ability to participate effectively in society.  Her beliefs are summarized in one of her key statements: “Transforming one life through education transforms families, future generations and our community.”
