Dr. Docia Rudley

Dr. Docia L. Rudley, an attorney and educator, currently serves as Executive Director for Academic Assessment at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University.

Dr. Rudley graduated with high honors from Michigan State University and attended law school at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. She was previously a member of the faculty at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she taught courses in Consumer Law, Antitrust Law and Professional Responsibility. Dr. Rudley also served on the faculties at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University.

During the early nineties, she was a supervisory attorney in the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, where she led the development of policy guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She received the OCR Special Act award for her work on the ADA. Dr. Rudley is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the National Bar Association, the American Bar Association and an inactive member of the state bars of Tennessee and Louisiana.

She was recently selected by the Center for Inquiry at Wabash College in Indiana to participate in the Teagle Scholar Development program. Funded by the Teagle Foundation, this national program trains and develops scholars to assist higher education professionals throughout the country on best practices in educational assessment.

Dr. Rudley currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board for Inprint Houston. She is married to Dr. John M. Rudley, president of Texas Southern University. As First Lady of Texas Southern, Dr. Rudley actively supports the University’s fine arts programs and mentoring initiatives. John and Docia Rudley have two sons, John Michael and Jamal.
