Eva L. Loredo

Trustee, District VIII, Houston Community College
A life-long educator and community volunteer, Eva Loredo brings a no-excuses spirit to the Houston Community College. She was elected to HCC Board of Trustees in November 2009 and re-elected in 2015. She served as Board Chair in 2017. Loredo feels strongly that HCC offers the Greater Houston area exceptional education opportunities for all of its citizens. An education through HCC is accessible and available; and with such opportunities, not getting an education is not an option.
Loredo enjoyed a 36-year career as an educator, starting as a teacher assistant, and then she taught grades kindergarten through six; she rose to assistant principal and served eleven years as principal of Gallegos Elementary. The major accomplishments during Loredo’s tenure as principal were Gallegos Elementary achieving Recognized Status by the Texas Education Agency for six straight years and the agreement with Aramark to provide free breakfasts to all students.
Since retiring in 2006, Loredo has served as a consultant. She has consulted with TejasLEE as a national trainer for the University of Houston. She conducted the Houston METRO Light Rail Safety School Program for students. She has served on the Mayor’s Magnolia Planning Task Force, she is a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 472, the Metropolitan Organization and of the Milby Alumni Scholarship Committee. Trustee Loredo considers herself a product of Houston – she attended HISD schools, graduating from Milby High School, and received her higher education at Houston universities. Loredo earned her Bachelor of Science in Education at Texas Southern University. She received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston and Mid-Management Certification from UH Clear Lake. Loredo is also certified as a teacher, in Early Childhood and Bilingual Education – ESL.
Loredo enjoys teaching, working with students and seeing them grow and watching the light come on when they learn something new. Students are like sponges and we, as teachers, give them the tools to make their lives better. She believes her most outstanding accomplishment is her ability to motivate and encourage students, workers and the community to be the best they can be. She is proud to have seen many of her students go on to college and to know that now they are the new educators. Loredo continues to mentor, promote and educate. She encourages people to be the best in their area, that they may learn more and push themselves and to strive to advance their lives.
Loredo’s aspirations and endeavors are supported by her family. Her parents, brothers, nieces and nephews live in Houston and encourage her community service. Trustee Loredo works to promote HCC to the Houston-area community of learners. She wants everyone to know what HCC has to offer and how the institution can help them improve their lives.
