Michelle Riley-Brown

Executive Vice President, Texas Children’s Hospital

Michelle Riley-Brown serves as Executive Vice President at Texas Children’s Hospital, President of Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands and President of Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. Through her leadership roles, Michelle oversees and directs Texas Children’s broad community strategy. This includes the organization’s community hospitals, primary care practices, urgent care clinics and Specialty Care locations, totaling more than 70 Texas Children’s care sites throughout the greater Houston community and the State of Texas.

Michelle’s successful leadership continues to play a critical role in the system’s expansion efforts, ensuring any child in need receives the right care, at the right place, at the right time. Leading by example, and fostering a culture of service to patients, families and the community, Michelle empowers her teams to think creatively about challenges, allowing new ideas and traditions to grow, while building upon the successful culture of the Texas Children’s brand.

A New Orleans, Louisiana native, she earned her undergraduate degree from Tulane University, as well as a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Upon completing her graduate degree studies, Michelle joined Texas Children’s Hospital in 1999 as an Administrative Fellow and has held numerous leadership roles within the organization ever since. She played a prominent role in the successful preparation, development and execution of Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus – Texas Children’s first community hospital which opened in 2010. Most recently, she had executive leadership responsibility and oversight of the strategic planning, construction, provider and staff recruitment, and activation planning for the system’s second community hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, which opened in April 2017. Additionally, Michelle is also leading the overall strategy to bring Texas Children’s brand of quality pediatric care to Austin.

Michelle developed her passion for health care from her late father, Dr. Emile Edward Riley Jr., who was a surgeon in New Orleans, La. She entered the field wanting to follow in her father’s footsteps, working with people and truly making an impact in their lives.

Michelle is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). She served as the 2014 President/Chair of the ACHE Southeast Texas Chapter. She also serves on various boards and committees in the Houston and Woodlands communities. She is married to her loving husband James E. Brown and is the proud mother of her 8-year-old daughter Sarah Elizabeth. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
