Jamila Mensah

Jamila Mensah is an Employment and Labor partner in Norton Rose Fulbright’s Houston office. Her practice covers all areas of employment law, including extensive experience in discrimination, retaliation and wage and hour issues. In particular, Mensah litigates on behalf of her clients in federal and state court and before administrative bodies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  She also counsels and trains employers on a wide range of employment issues, including hiring, termination, wage and hour compliance, disability accommodation, employment discrimination and drafting of employee handbooks and personnel policies.  Additionally, Mensah conducts internal investigations for clients on sensitive employment-related issues.  Her commitment to excellence and superior client service have made her a highly sought-after attorney and a standout among her peers.  She is also an active citizen of her law firm, serving as the vice chair of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Minority Lawyers Network and a member of the PRIDE Network. She is also significantly involved in the firm’s recruiting efforts and was recently selected to join the Houston Hiring Committee.

Mensah is a native of Houston, Texas where she lives with her husband and two daughters.  She graduated from Rice University in 2000, where she was a member of the track and field team, before attending the University of Texas School of Law, from which she graduated with honors in 2006. She is a 2014 Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity Fellow and a former Vice Chair of the Labor and Employment Division of the National Bar Association.  Mensah is also involved in various civic and community activities.  She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Houston Volunteer Lawyers, the UT Law Houston Steering Committee and the Oak Creek Village Swim Team, and she is the Chair of the Association of Rice University Black Alumni.

Mensah still fancies herself a “runner,” but in reality, she squeezes in running and other workouts whenever she can.  When she’s not working, she can be found at any local restaurant with her family talking about sports, music and all Marvel movies.
