Dr. Janet Wormack

Dr. Janet Wormack is a recent transplant to the Houston, Texas community. She currently serves as the vice chancellor of finance and administration at Houston Community College providing leadership and oversight of a dynamic leadership team including talent engagement, facilities and capital improvement, public safety, budget and finance, financial aid, information technology and procurement.

She is dedicated to ensuring that all students are able to pursue their educational goals by providing excellent customer service and efficient and responsive services, facilities and programs.  

Dr. Wormack is an accomplished senior leadership in administrative and fiscal affairs, with over 15 years of upper management experience in public and higher education administration. Her experience includes management expertise in finance, contract negotiations and contract management. She works tirelessly and collaboratively with all levels of the organization and values diversity.  Dr. Wormack works closely with boards of trustees, particularly the financial sustainability and audit committees, as well as external legislative and other stakeholders and the internal college community to bring strategic focus on the mission. 

In her short tenure at Houston Community College, Dr. Wormack accomplished significant strategic and programmatic goals through design thinking and through the extraordinary talents of her team. Results included:

  • A sustained talent pipeline through equitable and market based compensation programs
  • Retention and scholarship programs to support needy students
  • Keeping tuition affordable
  • Advocating for and receiving sustained state funding and Board of Trustees support of academic and student services capital projects ranging from $348 million to $425 million
  • Completing bond refinancing transactions to reduce operating budget impact
  • Support for the purchase of real estate property for campus expansion ($55 Million)
  • Successfully managing an annual operating budget of over $300 million
  • Ensuring proper financial and internal controls receiving unmodified financial audits
  • Improved campus public safety and safeguarding through centralization and an emphasis on the student experience

Dr. Wormack holds a Doctorate in Education in Community College Leadership and Administration from Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland and a Master of Arts in Administrative Management from Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona.
