Main Street Theater announces Artistic Inclusion & Community Engagement Director

Main Street Theater welcomes Sloane Teagle as its new Artistic Inclusion and Community Engagement Director. “Main Street Theater is committed to providing an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible space for our artists, audience, and staff. We are thrilled to have Sloane on board to help guide our efforts,” says Main Street Theater Founding Artistic Director Rebecca Greene Udden.

“I am excited to deepen my relationship with Main Street and help the theater grow,” remarks Ms. Teagle. “Sloane is thoughtful, mindful, intelligent, and compassionate,” offers Ms. Udden. “She brings our staff the balanced insight we seek as we move forward as an organization.”

“This last year has been very tender for me,” Ms. Teagle shares, reflecting on the murder of George Floyd and the racial injustice with which the U.S. is reckoning. “I’m glad that the theater field is taking steps to become more equitable, and I am honored to lead the way at Main Street.”

Ms. Teagle holds an M.F.A. from Mississippi University for Women in Physical Theatre as well as a B.F.A. from Texas State University in Theatre.

About Main Street Theater

Main Street Theater provides theater experiences for all ages. The MainStage produces professional, intimate, literary plays for adults and operates under an Actors’ Equity Association union contract; the Theater for Youth produces professional, engaging productions based on children’s literature for families and school groups, both in-house and on tour around Texas; and we offer Education and Outreach programs on-site and at satellite locations around the Greater Houston area for youth aged 4 – high school.  We work out of 2 facilities: our Rice Village home on Times. Blvd., and as part of the MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston) on Main Street.  Main Street Theater is a member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national service organization for not-for-profit theaters, of Theatre for Young Audiences/USA (formerly ASSITEJ), the world theatre network of theatre for children and young people, and a founding member of Houston Arts Partners. Main Street Theater is funded in part by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
