Dr. Shirley Rose-Gilliam

Dr. Shirley Rose-Gilliam understands the meaning of growing up in tough, challenged, and disadvantaged settings with very few opportunities. Her experiences as a child have been both a catalyst for changing her situation and today motivates her to answer the special “calling” to make a difference in the lives of youth. She currently serves as an advocate for education in her community as the Secretary of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees.
“I remember how one school and one teacher made a difference in my life by instilling a vision and dream in me,” she said. Dr. Rose-Gilliam is a long-time Houston area resident and a 32-year veteran educator, speaker, author, and consultant. She knows the uphill battles that some schools face when not in more affluent areas. “Just because children come from tough backgrounds, has nothing to do with their ability to learn and achieve,” she states. Her philosophy, “Everything we do matters” is a premise to her mission to develop campus staff for the challenges they face in today’s classrooms. Be consistent, be intentional, and complete all tasks with fidelity each and every day in order to lead students towards success.”

Dr. Rose-Gilliam brings a wealth of experience serving scholars, teachers, and leaders in public education, both in the traditional and charter school settings. Also affectionately known as “Dr. G,” she has made her greatest impact as a mentor, coach, and thought partner to other educators at all levels. In these roles, she also develops and facilitates professional learning experiences that challenge others to think deeply about their daily practice. In earlier days, Dr. G was a finalist for FBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year and was the FBISD Secondary Principal of the Year while at Bush HS.
She is a member of the Fort Bend Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston, a Master of Education from the University of Houston-Victoria, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University. Her motto is, “Believe in the Possibilities!” Her purpose in life is to serve and be a blessing to others.
