Erica Rico Contreras

Erica Rico is the strong, loving mom on 93Q’s Morning Show. Born in Tucson, AZ, she grew up listening to George Strait and wanted to live in Texas her whole life. She has now been a Houstonian for over 20 years and loves the community.

Rico battled with a stutter growing up and still does at times. She’s done some hard work and has learned to tame it. She still can’t believe she gets paid to talk!

Rico’s journey is an inspiration to many Latinos, especially young women: she grew up in a tough environment, dropped out of school, and became a mother at a young age. But she went back to get her education and completely turned her life around. She truly is a testament to what hard work and a good heart can do.

Her talents have taken her beyond the microphone, having appeared on reality shows and hosting her own cooking and BBQ shows. She’s a busy mom with very active children who participate in every sport imaginable. She’s also a band and theater mom. Rico loves cooking, gardening, doing home improvement projects with her husband, and traveling in her RV with her family.

Rico considers community service the most important part of her job with 93Q. She volunteers her time with many organizations and holds positions on several boards. She is the Vice President of the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals (HAHMP), Vice President of the Eagle Lake Fire Department Auxiliary, and Gala Chair for the Relentless Defender Foundation. Rico dedicates her time to hosting events, emceeing galas, and helping raise funds for charities that benefit First Responders, Military Members, cancer patients, and Houston’s homeless population. She also supports organizations that advocate for adults and children with autism, as well as battered women and children.

Among her many radio awards, Rico was voted the “Hottest Woman in Radio.” At the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, she has earned the titles of Grand Champion for Celebrity Wild Cow Milking, Grand Champion for Llama Showing, and Reserve Champion for Celebrity Goat Milking.

Rico’s family is everything to her. Rico’s husband, Mark, is a First Responder and a Veteran. They have 10 kids between them, ranging from ages 6 to 30, as well as six beautiful grandsons. Rico has a son in the Marines and a son in the Air Force. They are a proud Military and First Responder family. Rico is all about family and living the country life; she cares for two goats, 40 chickens, and two dogs. In her off time, you can find her in the large garden built for her by her husband or in her yard shooting her longbow.

Erica Rico is a name you can trust in the Houston community. Houston knows if something is needed, she will be there to help.
