Dr. Karen Gray Gomez is an accomplished physician executive, healthcare leader, and passionate community advocate whose career has been defined by compassionate service, visionary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of others. A board-certified internist with more than 23 years of clinical experience and nearly a decade in managed care leadership, she currently serves as a Medical Director for Centene Corporation, where she helps ensure patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care while advancing initiatives that improve healthcare outcomes, reduce unnecessary utilization, and promote health equity.

A native of Louisiana, Dr. Gray Gomez began her academic journey at Xavier University of Louisiana before earning her Doctor of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College, where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital before joining Baylor College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Throughout her distinguished career, she has earned recognition for clinical excellence, including Physician of the Quarter at Harris Health System, the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce STEAM Role Model Award, and CKW Luxe Magazine’s Top 20 Inspiring Women Impact Maker Award.

While her professional accomplishments are significant, Dr. Gray Gomez is equally recognized for her dedication to mentorship, education, and community service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she partnered with medical and community organizations to educate the public, provide testing services, and support vulnerable families throughout Houston. She continues to champion preventive health initiatives, mentor future healthcare professionals, and inspire young people through educational and leadership programs.

Her commitment to service extends across numerous civic and professional organizations. Dr. Gray Gomez is an active member of The Links, Incorporated, where she has served in several leadership roles, including Chair of the Health and Human Services Facet and organizer of large scale community health initiatives. She also serves on the Board of Directors of The Women’s Home and is actively involved with Twelve Days of Christmas, Incorporated, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the National Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and several other organizations dedicated to advancing education, healthcare, and community empowerment.

Above all, Dr. Gray Gomez is devoted to faith, family, and service. She is the proud wife of Dr. Rossie Gomez and the loving mother of their daughter, Giovanna “Gigi” Gomez. Whether leading healthcare transformation, mentoring future leaders, or serving her community, Dr. Gray Gomez believes that true success is measured not only by professional achievement but by the lives uplifted along the journey.
