Samica Knight

Samica Knight is an Emmy-nominated journalist and trusted television news anchor whose career has been defined by a passion for storytelling, investigative reporting and serving the communities she calls home. A native Houstonian, Knight is living a lifelong dream as an anchor for ABC13/KTRK-TV, returning to the station where she first discovered her love for broadcast journalism as a college intern. Today, she helps Houstonians start their day by delivering timely, accurate and impactful news while covering the stories that matter most to Southeast Texas.

Before returning to Houston, Knight served as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at WHP-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she earned statewide recognition for her investigative reporting. Her investigation into a Pennsylvania company that withheld thousands of dollars from employees for nonexistent health insurance prompted the introduction of state legislation and earned awards from The Associated Press and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. Earlier in her career, she reported for KXXV-TV in Waco, Texas, covering major stories ranging from President George W. Bush at his Crawford ranch to high-profile courts-martial at Fort Hood. She also began her professional broadcasting career at KFSN-TV in Fresno, California, gaining valuable experience as a reporter.

Knight graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism. She is also a graduate of the university’s nationally recognized Program for Excellence in Selling, reflecting her commitment to strong communication and leadership skills. Before college, she attended Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she cultivated her lifelong love of music and performance. As a member of the Houston Children’s Chorus, she performed at Carnegie Hall and in high school toured internationally in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing, China, experiences that broadened her appreciation for culture and storytelling.

Beyond the newsroom, Knight is deeply committed to serving her community. She is active in her church, volunteers with local organizations and regularly participates in educational and literacy initiatives that encourage young people to pursue their dreams. Samica’s love for news, her beloved ABC13 news station, and the Houston community has led to numerous awards and accolades, including being voted “Best TV News Personality” in the esteemed Houston Chronicle Best of the Best 2026. She was also honored by ABC News and ABC13 as the 2025 ABC13 Culture Champion.

She has also been recognized for her reporting on public education and community issues and was honored by the Harris County Department of Education as part of its Media Honor Roll.

Knight and her family are proud to call Houston home. Whether reporting breaking news, mentoring aspiring journalists or giving back through community service, she remains committed to using journalism to inform, inspire and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
