Anna M. Babin was named President and CEO of United Way of Greater Houston in August 2005. As chief executive of the nation’s third largest United Way, Babin blends sound business acumen with a deep understanding of community needs. Working closely with corporate and community advisors, she led the organization through the development of three strategic plans, with the most recent, Second Century Vision, set to position the United Way as the leading voice and expert in creating opportunities for low-income families and individuals to thrive. In 2017, under her leadership, United Way raised more than $50 million for immediate relief and long-term recovery following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey on the Houston region.
Babin has focused the organization on issues that assist people to secure a better future with initiatives around family financial stability, veterans services – MISSION UNITED – and educational support to children in their out-of-school time. United Way THRIVE, a collaborative now in its tenth year, has demonstrated the power of partnerships, helping more than 67,000 families achieve their dreams of family financial well-being and independence and delivering a 10:1 return on investment. An advocate for providing accurate and timely information to callers of 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE, she launched and completed a successful capital campaign in 2015 to create a new facility to meet the demand of the growing number of people in need of help. A native Texan, Babin holds a degree in business administration from Lamar University and maintains her CPA credential. She serves on diverse community boards and committees, including the Greater Houston Partnership, Executive Women’s Partnership, United Ways of Texas, University of Houston Board of Visitors, Good Reason Houston Leadership Council, and chairs the United Way Worldwide 2-1-1 National Operating Group.
