Houston First Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Houston, TX (September 17, 2021) – Houston First Corporation (HFC) invites everyone to join in this year’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 – October 15. As the destination management organization responsible for promoting the nation’s fourth largest and most diverse city, HFC is excited to present a collection of artistic experiences highlighting the culture and contributions of Hispanic artists.

This year Houston First is presenting exhibitions showcasing the works of local Hispanic American and Mexican artists. These exhibits are all free and open to the public.       

Lost Landscapes
September 18, 2021 – January 9, 2022
Paintings by Gerardo Rosales
Location: Partnership Tower, 701 Avenida de las Americas, Level 1, Lobby

On exhibit are lushly patterned paintings by Houston-based artist Gerardo Rosales. These works explore the challenges of class, race, gender, and immigration experienced by immigrants coming from Latin America to the United States.

Celebración de Vida by MEXICRÁNEOS October 6 – November 7, 2021  

Location: Discovery Green and Plaza at Avenida Houston

The U.S. debut of a public art installation consisting of 10, 6-foot-tall skulls, painted by Mexican artists to celebrate popular culture through one of the richest, most ancient Mexican traditions, Dia de los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead.” The skulls will be placed throughout the park and along the plaza at Avenida Houston.

Houston Artist Angel Quesada will create a community altar for public view November 1, 4-9 p.m. where visitors are invited to participate by leaving copies of photos or mementos of loved ones on the altar. Located alongside Celebración de Vida installation. (Note: items will not be returned).
