Maria Emee Mendoza-Nisnisan was born and raised in the Philippines. She finished her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila known as University of the City of Manila. She came to the United States in 1992 to work as a registered nurse in Chicago with just her diploma, two suitcases and a goal to succeed and make a difference. Now she is the Medical Practice Administrator of Royal Oaks Medical Home and Wellness Clinics located in Sugar Land and Houston. She is also the CEO of the Acacia Medical Research Institute, LLC.
Emee’s passion to give back to the community is evident through the numerous service programs she initiated and still undertakes. In 2012, she was one of 11 Lion Leaders across the country who was honored at the White House as a Champion of Change for demonstrating how families can enjoy serving together and for her extra ordinary efforts in helping patients and their families. She also coordinates community events like resources fairs, business expos, free medical service, cancer awareness and health screenings to help people understand their conditions and be connected with the proper agencies and resources.
Emee was the Community Outreach Chairperson of the Philippine Nurses Association Metro Houston from 2006-2010. She was instrumental in the creation of the first Filipino American Cancer Network of America in Houston. On May 2007, she received the Outstanding Nurse Award given by the Philippine Nurses Association of Metro Houston for her Excellence in Nursing Leadership and Outstanding Community Service. That same year, she was honored as the first recipient of Community Angel Award given by the Houston Woman’s Magazine for her active involvement in serving the needs of those less fortunate and for being a positive influence on others.
She served as a Board Member of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce – Houston Chapter and Community Outreach Program Director of the Filipino American Council of South Texas. She is a member of Women’s Voice for Better America, the Alief Community Association and a Partner in Education at the Alief ISD.
Emee states that being a part of the Lions Clubs International since 2004 has given her more opportunities to serve in other parts of the world. Since 2010, Emee and the Houston Royal Oaks Lions extended their medical, dental, vision, feeding, disaster awareness programs and back to school drives to the victims of calamities in underserved areas in the Philippines, Nepal, Guatemala and more. Her dedication as a Lion Leader and her humanitarian endeavors earned her several awards, including Lion of the Year award, Melvin Jones Fellowship Plaques, multiple Leadership Medals and Appreciation awards from the Lions Clubs International.
Her very busy schedule as a career woman, wife, mother of four daughters and care taker for her parents and her in-laws did not prevent Emee from doing her passion to serve. Emee recently finished her two-year term as Elected Director of Texas Lions Camp for children with physical disabilities, diabetes type I, cancer on remission and Down Syndrome. She plans to continue to help and mentor others especially the youth and those who are willing to make a difference.
