Shara McClure

Vice President Network Management, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas

Shara McClure joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) in 2005. As vice president of network management, she is responsible for provider relations, provider contracting, and provider services statewide. Prior to her current position, McClure was divisional vice president of Houston Healthcare Operations at BCBSTX.

McClure’s previous health care experience in the Houston area includes serving as director of provider contracting for two other local health plans, contract specialist for a Houston-area independent physician association, director of managed care services for Tenet Healthcare and manage for Prudential’s Houston health care operations. She began her career as a systems analyst at Price Waterhouse.

McClure has 20 years of career experience in health care financing related to managing the cost of medical services.

McClure earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She is a Senior Fellow with the American Leadership Forum Houston and a graduate of Leading Women Executives. She serves on the Houston Business Coalition on Health’s board and is on the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association’s 2013 and 2014 Go Red for Women Campaigns.

Her father, a retired high school principal, influenced McClure on leadership and her mother, a retired high school teacher, influenced McClure on the importance of communication and the value of physical fitness.

“The greatest wealth is health.” -Virgil, an ancient Roman poet. This quote inspires McClure  because she feels her best investment is daily exercise. She’s been running every morning with a good friend for 13 years. She is convinced this has helped her stay healthy.

When she isn’t busy working, McClure enjoys golfing. She has been married for 22 years to Craig McClure, a Sales Director at Honeywell with a background in Chemical Engineering. Her daughter Melinda, 20, is studying Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her son Michael, 18, is a senior at Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land. She is a member of Parkway United Methodist Church and plays golf at the Houstonian Golf and Country Club in Sugar Land.
