Sharon E. Murphy

Sharon E. Murphy is a founding partner at McConnell Jones Lanier & Murphy LLP (MJLM). MJLM has grown into the third largest African American-owned consulting and accounting firm in the nation. Sharon has more than 30 years of experience in financial management, business and strategic planning, organizational assessment, policy analysis and program evaluation. As a partner in the consulting division, she heads the firm’s education practice and is responsible for a national clientele that includes school districts and institutions of higher education as well as government (federal, state and municipal) agencies. In the education arena, Sharon has led consulting engagements for 20 of the nation’s top 100 school systems covering 13 states. She also oversees the operations of complex, large-scale Jobs Corps Centers in California, Texas, Maryland and Massachusetts for the U.S. Department of Labor.

Sharon strongly believes in giving back to the community and is dedicated to civic involvement. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Chapter of American Leadership Forum (ALF), the Ensemble Theatre and the Women’s Home. At ALF, Sharon is the former Chair for the Collaborative on Public Education Committee. At the Ensemble, Sharon serves as Co-Chair of the Theatre’s Annual Golf Tournament, which benefits the Young Performers Program and Co-chair of the Facilities Renovation Committee. She also served as Co-Chair of the Ensemble Theatre’s 2012 and 2013 annual galas.

Sharon has been a panelist at national meetings for Council of Great City Schools and the National School Board Association addressing issues on public education. Past honor recognition includes “Woman of Distinction” by the Houston Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and Houston’s ABC affiliate, KTRK Channel 13. She has also been the recipient of the Building Block Award, given by Child Builders, Houston’s advocate for mental health in children.
