Dr. Darlene Breaux

Dr. Darlene Breaux is a powerful motivational speaker that has engaged audiences at a national level. She is the founder and CEO of Insight Ed. Consulting where she helps organizations regain their focus and provides them with the necessary tools to keep them on track with tailor-made solutions that help them thrive. She uses her custom coaching framework to uncover the barriers, limiting beliefs, and behaviors that hold them back from achieving their goals. She provides specific tools and strategies to unravel challenges and influence strategic action.

She developed her passion for education early on because of her challenge as a student. She is number six of seven children and was identified as dyslexic in elementary school. Her parents never allowed her struggle to read to define her intellectual ability. She learned how to trust her strengths and utilize her unique perspective as a dyslexic thinker to guide her through her educational pursuits. Breaux has earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Southern University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Houston–Clear Lake where she graduated with high honors, and a doctorate in organizational leadership from Abilene Christian University where she also received a certification in mediation.

Her research centered on Teachers’ Perceptions Regarding Dyslexia Training for Addressing the Social-Emotional Needs of Children with Dyslexia. Dr. Breaux received the Dissertation of the Year award from the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration for her policy and advocacy work for students with dyslexia and the teachers who teach them. To date her dissertation has been downloaded over thirteen-hundred times across eighty-eight countries. Breaux has held a variety of roles in education: teacher, reading specialist, dyslexia and intervention coordinator, campus principal, and director of special populations. Most recently she served as the director of the Research and Evaluation Institute at the Harris County Department of Education.

Dr. Breaux’s experience in higher education has been as an adjunct professor at Southern Utah University and Lamar University where she has led doctoral students in the areas of strategic planning, turnaround leadership, using data to inform decisions, and global policy. Breaux serves on the board of directors for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards (GCAASB), Houston reVision, and is the board president and chair of the policy committee for Alief Independent School District. Through her pursuit of excellence, Dr. Breaux has also earned the distinction of Master Trustee.
