Dell Harkey Braunsdorf

Dell Harkey Braunsdorf is a native Texan, born in Dallas. She grew up in the Lake Dallas area and in the Clear Lake/NASA area. She attended local junior colleges, thanks to a scholarship from the Moody Foundation. Dr. Braunsdorf received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston (Cum Laude graduate), with concentration in Environmental Management, and she received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Dr. Braunsdorf has worked with adolescents, adults and geriatric patients in the inpatient, residential and outpatient settings, treating mental illness and substance use disorders.

Early in her career, Dr. Braunsdorf, worked in pollution control for several years. She also helped implement a conflict resolution model for locating waste management sites. Dr. Braunsdorf has served as Associate Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Optum. While in that role, she was one of the principle designers, and she helped implement the company’s first medical-behavioral integration program.

Currently, Dr. Braunsdorf is Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Amerigroup (Anthem) for Texas and Nevada. At Amerigroup, Dr. Braunsdorf works with some of the best and most dedicated doctors from many medical specialties, nurses, therapists, social workers and member outreach specialists, who help Amerigroup members lead healthier lives.

Dr. Braunsdorf is married to Captain Buckley Braunsdorf, and they have one daughter, Kathryn. In her free time she enjoys gardening, traveling, waterskiing and helping those who need a hand up, be they humans, canines or felines. Dr. Braunsdorf also loves the Dallas Cowboys!
