Born in Venezuela, Paola Barbieri’s early life was shaped by an international upbringing that spanned three countries and two continents. As a child, she moved with her family to Massachusetts while her father pursued graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her family later relocated to the Netherlands, where she developed a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and global experiences that continue to influence both her legal career and her commitment to public service.
Barbieri earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin before obtaining her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center. She began her legal career in private practice, representing clients in personal injury matters before answering the call to public service. Today, she serves as an attorney with the Office of the Texas Attorney General, where she applies her legal expertise in service to the people of Texas. Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation for professionalism, integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.
A dedicated leader within Houston’s legal community, Barbieri serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and co-chairs the HBA x HYLA Wellness Committee, a collaborative initiative between the Houston Bar Association and Houston Young Lawyers Association. Through this leadership role, she helps advance programs that promote attorney wellness and professional development while fostering a stronger and more connected legal profession.
Service has always been central to Barbieri’s mission. She has provided pro bono legal representation through Houston Volunteer Lawyers, Catholic Charities, and Advocates for Immigrant Survivors, helping individuals and families overcome barriers to justice. Her commitment to giving back also extends beyond the courtroom through volunteer work with Friends for Life, the Children’s Assessment Center, the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation Adopt-an-Angel program, and the Houston Food Bank.
Before pursuing law, Barbieri dedicated years to the study of classical piano and ballet. She returned to ballet as an adult and continues training at Houston Ballet, embracing the discipline and artistry that have long enriched her life. Her passion for the arts also led her to serve on the Young Patrons Benefit Committee for the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala.
As a 2026 Top 30 Influential Women of Texas honoree, Barbieri is recognized not only for her professional accomplishments and leadership within the legal profession, but also for her unwavering commitment to service, mentorship, and community. She remains grateful for the mentors, family, friends, and colleagues who have supported her journey and looks forward to continuing to make a meaningful impact through both her profession and her service.
