Dr. Janice M. Beal

Dr. Janice M. Beal, is a researcher, clinician, author, and behavioral expert. Her leadership and administrative experiences include President of Beal Counseling Associates, and Beal Behavioral Health. Currently, she is contracted as a mental health expert for the Steve Fund. Where she serves as the program director for “Well Being In Color” a peer mental health educational program, and support groups for students of color. This program is unique and will reach over six hundred students in Houston and New York city. 

In 2020, she developed and implemented two Covid-19 crisis mental health hotlines/helplines. The first was for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) one of the largest school districts in the county, reaching out to the student body, parents, teachers, and administrators. Callers of all ages called in to discuss their psychological difficulties while adjusting to the pandemic.  The second helpline was developed for the City of Houston (4th largest city) Health Department called “Let’s Beat Covid-19 Health Education and Support Services H.E.S.S”. In the capacity of Director, her team answered over 1500 calls in three months. Dr. Beal and her team were able to address numerous suicide calls, callers suffering from anxiety and depression, callers in need of support services, and callers who just needed someone to talk to.

At Beal Counseling Associates, Dr. Beal is the Clinical Director and Primary Therapist. Her administrative duties include overseeing the billing and reporting process for operations. She oversees the systems for each contract to ensure compliance with each client’s reporting procedure.

Throughout her twenty-eight plus years of professional experience she served as a clinician, treating the emotional needs of children and adolescents. She has also been awarded numerous contracts and grants to provide counseling to local agencies. Dr. Beal’s professional clinical work history includes Hopebridge Hospital, Houston Behavioral Hospital, and Riverside General Hospital, where she developed, opened, and served as clinical director for their child and adolescent in-patient psychiatric units. She has provided training workshops for numerous agencies and area school districts.

Dr. Beal is an accomplished writer, having published articles on teen pregnancy, self-esteem, violence, and African American issues. She has presented research at more than seventy-five national and international professional meetings and conferences. She has provided over nine hundred speeches, and even has completed two therapeutic children’s coloring books entitled “A Boy Named Rocky” and “Rocky’s Road” for children of incarcerated parents. Her most recent accomplishment released in December 2020 was a chapter included in a book on “Domestic Violence”. Recently, she became a member of the Mayor of Houston task force for special needs and a consultant for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on youth mental health, and domestic violence for COVID-19 victims.

As an academician she served in the role of coordinator for the Psychology Program at Prairie View A & M University for seven years. She was also an Assistant Professor teaching classes in general psychology, research methods, adolescent psychology, and African American issues in psychology. Dr. Beal has also served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of St. Thomas and Sam Houston State University.  In addition, she has been a television, and radio expert for many years.

Dr. Beal received both a Doctorate of Education Degree in Guidance and Counseling/Psychology and Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Texas Southern University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. She pursued her post-doctoral education from the University of Texas – School of Public Health and California School of Professional Psychology – Health Care Administration Certification. She is married to Dr. Dashiel Geyen and is the mother of Jasmine Louise a first year law student at Syracuse University.
