Carmen McZeal

Carmen McZeal is the co-founder of Edge Sports Counseling and the owner of Remarkable Kids Pediatric Therapy. As a co-founder of Edge Sports, she partners with sports organizations, general managers, athletic directors, and schools to help their athletes “edge” out their competition. As the owner of Remarkable Kids Pediatric Therapy, Carmen ensures that the children of Houston and its surrounding areas receive the physical, occupational, and speech therapy services they so desperately need. And as a licensed Psychotherapist and consultant, Carmen has been providing services in the Greater Houston area for nearly 20 years. She began her career as a therapist in partial hospitalization programs and state agencies. Soon after, she became a certified mediator and has spent many years handling conflict resolution cases within the Harris County court system. Her advanced skills in counseling and conflict resolution paved a way for Carmen to open her private practice and consulting business. She has also shared her expertise as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional and has served as a guest speaker, consultant, lecturer and panelists for local state agencies, school districts, NAACP conferences, and PHP programs.

Carmen has received numerous recognitions, including:

  • The Boys and Girls Club of America Volunteer Award
  • Teacher of the Year
  • Top 50 Entrepreneurs
  • Pinnacle Award Nominee
  • Community Spirit Award
  • ABPA Scholarship Award

Carmen’s memberships include:

  • Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
  • Texas Coalition of Black Democrats

In her current role, she manages numerous partnerships among 3 locations with over 50 associates.

Despite the challenges of being a minority business owner in the field of mental health and athletics, Carmen is helping to shatter the glass ceiling in a largely male-dominated field while breaking the stigmas surrounding mental health in athletics and fostering a culture of understanding, compassion, empathy, and open dialogue.

Carmen attended the University of New Orleans and Dillard University where she received a B.A. degree in English and a M.A. degree in Counseling and Psychology from Prairie View A&M University.

Carmen is a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband, Kevin own Zealand Investments and they currently live with their two children in Spring, TX.
